DJ's freshman class at the UGA (1980), featured College Football Hall of Famer Herschel Walker, is considered to be the most successful recruiting class in UGA football history. Their four year record included 44 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie.
DJ was sought again by the NFL and accepted an offer to play for the Green Bay Packers. He played for the Packers from April 1984 until 1986. He then played for the Denver Broncos until 1988.
DJ’s impressive resume also includes extensive community involvement. He serves on the board of the Columbus-Phoenix City Boys and Girls Club, Columbus Sports and Events Council, Columbus Quarterback Club, Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame Committee, National Football League Alumni Association, National Football League Retired Players Association and the Carver High School Alumni Association. DJ is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
